Nano Main Field:

Existing membrane fabrication techniques lack the molecular-level design required to discriminate between solutes and achieve selectivity. Additionally, the principles for fabricating such selective membranes are not well established. Recent advances in angstrom-scale fabrication techniques, combined with insights from nanofluidics and ion-selective biological channels establish the basis for a new class of membranes with solute-solute selectivity.

Research Interests:

Our group focuses on development of membrane processes for selective separation at the water-energy nexus. In light of the growing efforts to understand and improve solute-solute selectivity in membrane processes, we strive to explore the fundamentals underlying molecular transport and selectivity in membranes and nanopores, and use the insights gained to develop selective membranes for specific applications.
